  1. Anybody done/do isofix for a rock n roll bed?

Nope, don't think so as it'd have to form part of the bed frame which would mean the integrity of the mountings would also have to be tested etc etc

Volksworld had an article on one of the editors putting it in their beetle, but not on a bus.

I'm sure I've seen a conversion with a steel bar and a westie bed somewhere.

Might need to know this info in a few months myself...

  4. You can buy an isofix bracket these need to be chassis mounted. It can be done and should not be too expensive. Of memory serves I think ford supply isofix brackets. Not too sure if this will work with a RnR bed as the isofix loops are usually not very long.

  5. I think that Ford offered a retrofit ISOFIX for Fiestas, but as mentioned, probably not useful in this situation.

Seat belts are seen as just as good, if not better - ISOFIX is convenient. Remember that the limit for ISOFIX is 65lb (just under 30kg) for child and seat combined - heavier than that and you are on seat belts only anyway.

  6. you'd be far better off rigging something specific to what you have in the van, rather than adapting the van to accommodate isofix IMO, (if that makes sense?)
proper inertia belt mounts for the rear are available (remanufactured, based on original design)...was it @davidoft that was making them?

  7. If I had time it's certainly something I would try to rig up assuming I could do it properly, (do you have children?) child seats when secured by Isofix are better crash rated than non fixed and the other advantage is when manoeuvring a 5 year into the seat it doesn't move, probably even more helpful when the seat is in the back and raised up as it tends to be in a camper van.

@charlene out of interest I just googled isofix brackets for camper van and there are some pics and links here's one of those http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=41629&view=next

  9. Can't you just put something heavy, like the awning on top of the kid to keep it safe?

  10. The main benefit of isofix is that it's much harder to install it incorrectly. It is more rigid but if you have ever used a maxi cosi seat belt type (or dual) base (family fix?) you'll know that they are very rigid anyway.

I wouldn't go fitting brackets to a bus, I'd fit the proper seat belt brackets and rest assured that all the bits fitted have been designed to do the job

  11. Hi Thankyou all for info - we have a 3/4 bed with a three point seatbelt in the one side but obviously with units can't for one on the other .....
