My gauge goes properly to the bottom line when the tank is empty, but when I fill the tank it only shows 3/4 full. After I drive a few miles it will slowly creep up maybe another 1/8 tank, but it never reaches the full mark. It's really not a bother and I will probably never fix it, but I do wonder sometimes- 1.) Will it get worse? Is this a sign of impending chronic gauge failure? Should I be doing something to arrest it's potential demise? 2.) When the gauge says it's empty, do you suppose I might actually still have 1/8 of a tank or so? : The tank was rusted when I bought it, so I had it removed, cleaned, and coated on the inside so it would never rust again. Might that be related to the problem?
Filled mine up on Thursday and it did exactly that - hit 3/4 even though it was brimming and then rose slightly.
yep mines the same, filled yesterday and it sort of whent to 3/4 then fullish then danced a merry jig.... all i know is when it's in the red it's got about 10 litres in so i don't worry about the top end as the bottom end is quite accurate.
If you have a type 1 engine then yes - or drop the engine. If you have a type 4 then you can remove the carbs, bulkhead and then you can get to it with a little bit of knuckle scraping!
Mine's the same, fill her up and she sits at 3/4 full. I suppose its fixable but who cares as long as the empty end is somewhere near accurate. ;D ;D
Exactly - as long as the empty side is accurate then its not a problem - it can be a simple and cheap fix though if you want a little Sunday project
Mine has never read above 1/4 full so I rely in the odometer to see how far I have gone and when to fill up. The speedo stopped working today. Illegitimate child. Sorry, I needed to get that out of my system.
i never fill up more than 1/2 tank max, reason being, my 1st car mini 1100 special, was nicked i"d just done one years tax and a full tank! boy , that hurt , nick my bus and pay the petrol bill yerself, expect they"d bring it back !!
