I can tell you that I have had two insurance companies who have taken my money and not complained. Not that I have ever had to make a claim from either. Adrian Flux wanted valuation pictures. Footman James didnt. And when it comes to trackers, I think you need to look into at least 4G based trackers these days as the mobile operators will be killing off 2G/3G that means most us who have cheap trackers will be chasing another provider. Watch out for and be suspicious of trackers with service via cloud computing in China as you can never tell exactly how long it will be before Uncle Sam kills those off too, or the company just vanishes. I dont like the idea of giving China my data.. So that means UK providers with prices maybe £300 for the tracker compared with the £30 you can get a TK103 or whatever for on eBay. These work fairly well , I use one with a cheapish GiffGaff SIM but declined the Chinese cloud service that it wanted to connect to. So I have to run my own Traccar server on a PC that basically has been switched on for maybe 5 years solid apart from pauses to clean out fluff or change a hard drive, and which costs probably about £1 a day in electricity and maintenance. . I have been vaguely searching for a 4G tracker that can be bought as a box without a contract. But these are much rarer than the 2G/3G trackers on Amazon and eBay.
Just tried Performance Direct and they came up with HISCOX for £99.50. £197 Just Kampers and waiting to speak to Admiral tomorrow as currently have car and home insurance with them. Just want to be sure am covered and will have separate break down cover (another one to look for) Still unsure about Tracker as yet.
Obviously cover is more important than the price . I`m in an odd position in that because i haven`t another `everyday` vehicle (i use Lady Lastys) and therefore have to keep my own no claims up to date by taking a normal (expensive ) - not classic - policy so went through the whole treadmill and to be perfectly honest no-one cared about having a tracker or not . Only proviso on my current Adrian Flux policy is the van MUST be fitted with a `fuel cut off switch` - bizarre but there you go ....
I’ve been with Footman James for a good few years now, renewal is due next week. Classic Car Cover Guaranteed Value - £35k Salvage Retention - in the event of write off. £232 - which is cheaper than last year, unlike my daily. I’ve got a TK103 but signal coverage is really bad in my area so it’s a bit hit and miss. I have 2 immobilisers and a disklok too Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes totally agree the cover is important and the £99 seems too cheap if that make sense, just want to be sure am covered for an accident/theft. Footman James seems to be the one lot of people mention so am going to get a quote today. GPSBob No Monthly fees 5 Years tracking £169 looks decent with good reviews. + Battery Isolator. Just a polite reminder that Tracker (the brand) doesn't use 2/3/4/5G - it uses radio signals primarily - though some use sim cards for comms, not location. If you are going to invest proper money - look at Thatcham approved (list below). The primary thing about trackers is this - the Police do not respond to you telling them where your van is, they certainly will not track it on the move - you have to go to the site yourself and be prepared to recover it. I appreciate everyone wants to get all Daily Mail over that, but you have ZERO guarantee you will get Police help unless under some form of threat. I've worked with asset recovery companies - its bloody hairy rocking up to an industrial estate, or friendly traveller community site with no police presence. Monitored systems, such as Tracker however are far more likely to get a Police response (I would nominate though that this is not as guranteed as it might sound - due to funding cuts, there might not be someone available).
