Indicators - help

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by formbyjules, Aug 13, 2012.

  1. This evening I noticed a green wire hanging loose underneath my dash. Just one end was loose as though it had come away from somewhere. I couldnt see where and assumed it was an earth wire - it seemed to affect the indicators as when i indicated right it was fine and when i indicated left it was really fast flashing (double speed) - i tried touching the exposed wire end on one of the screws on the steering column and it seemed to spark and short everything. Now none of my indicators work (front or back) yet the bulbs seem fine (not blown) - anyone any ideas what i did and if its easily fixable or do i need to pop into 81a again tomorrow? Cheers.

  2. Hi the green wire is prob from the emergency flasher unit switch, it is the feed from one of the fuses, (cant remember which one but should be obvious). Brown is earth.

  3. As above, think you've shorted the fuse for the emergency flasher unit, number 8 I think...

I recommend getting a test light or multimeter to check for current rather than tapping it on a screw. I think you've been lucky this time but it could have been a whole lot worse...and more expensive!
