why thank you sir, for some reason mine has decided to stop working. i was going to test it with the meter but i don't where to start,
I think these are the bulbs your looking for http://www.justkampers.com/141-957-397-a-dashboard-bulb-holder-for-vw-t2-1968-1979.html
Ah theyre the ones for the indicators - excuse my silliness for popping a bulbholder up, hence why Im off to have glasses tomorrow!
Start by taking the binnacle out. To do this, first disconnect the battery. Then remove the heater levers (this can be a challenge in itself. If you're lucky, they'll just pull out - but it does depend on year, and possibly whether a previous owner has removed the nylon locking studs). Undo the four screws in the corners of the binacle. Ease the unit forward then unscrew the speedo cable. You should then be able to pull the unit out. The "tell tale" lamps can be unlocked by a quarter turn then pull out. You'll probably be able to tell by eye if the bulb is blown as it'll be black, but if not pull it from the holder and test with your meter on continuity (ohms) setting. They won't actually light up unless fitted to the unit as one of the connections is made via the metal plates on the back of the cluster. Part of the back of the cluster is (+) and part is (-) - so be very careful about shorting it out should you decide to reconnect the battery with the unit still out.
Or just do it blind, stick your hand up the back of the clocks, locate the correct bulb holder, whip it out with said mentioned corner turn and replace job. 1 minute job. Make sure all your other bulbs work correctly, especially the oil
As Joker says you can just about get your head under to see the holder twist it a bit and it will come out pull the build out of the black holder Halfords do the bulbs in 2 different wattage standard 1w and 1.2w if you want it a bit brighter
thanks all for the replies guys , luckily it was just a blown bulb and not the wiring, if the bulb wasn't at fault then testing was my next option. regards skid
