IMPORT HELP / Can anyone help ??

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Adventure-bus, Sep 6, 2011.

  1. i have just purchased a T2 Austrian Bay off ebay, the only documents i have with the vehicle are what i thought some sort of transfer of ownership form from a Motor Museum in Stiftung, it now appears to be CERTIFICATE GNERATED FORM from here
    http://automuseum.volkswagen.de/urkunden.html
    showing the previous owners name.
I dont have a receipt from the Museum or Receipt forwarded from the buyer i purchased from ebay for the Van - the previous owner has left in the van a blank Application form for first license , a blank notification of Acquisition from HM customs, a V149 and guide for filling in V355/5.
To be honest this is all a bit over my head and feel a bit out of depth, hope everything is above board - will he of needed to of contacted dvla, shall I to make sure everything is ok ? Is there anything (forms) missing i would need to get a V5 for the Van ?
    :-
Any help would be great and much appreciated.

    Kind regards

The certificate you linked is the vehicles birth certificate...basically a spec sheet of what it was built with.

this form v55 is needed, you need a c&e 386 to prove the import tax has been paid too, also proof of ownership (title from the u.s)
if you haven't got the c&e you'll have to pay tax on the price purchased @20% officially....but you'll get away with 5% if you make the effort and fill in the correct forms. contact the dvla they are quite helpful, the v55 looks daunting but you don't need half the info it asks for. shout me if you get stuck.

the main thing you need is the import duty document and proof of age, austria is an EU country so no import duty to pay assuming it was orriginally sent there or has been registered there, other than that fill in the forms snd them off

you do have to mot the van first as dvla want this for proof of roadworthyness etc

he wouldnt have needed to contact dvla unless he intended to register it himself, did you win it off uk or austrian ebay ?

p.s the birth certificate is about 50 euros/£46 you don't need that, you can just get a data sheet for 10 euros......you don't need this if your van is 1973 onwards they only want proof if you're trying to get free roadtax, you can prove the age off the vin number to generate a uk reg number for example mine is march 78 but the log book says 1/1/78

    ahhh didn't realise it was e.u. that's good no import tax...you won't need the c&e 386.

don't worry it's easy to bull the dvla to be honest if you aint after free tax they don't care you will sort it easy they are happy enough to get the £55 off you to register it, but don't forget you got to tax it when you register it and you need a mot and isurance before you do that.

  13. Was UK ebay, however that said no one bid on it - i didnt buy through purchase i re contacted the buyer as i saw it didnt sell and forwarded money - the guy sounds honest enough and to be fair once all money sent he could of done a runner rather than arange collection ey . Think its more of a case of havent a bloody clue looking at your answers above!

seriously don't panic, you can generate a b/s bill of sale anyway using a basic word program possesion is 99% ownership anyway, you'll find out if you take as much paperwork as you can and fill forms in well that the d.v.l.a office will be fine - i would go in person it saves a lot of messing about, i went to shrewsbury for mine - download the v55 fill it in and ring them or ask me if you get stuck, trust me it may seem daunting but they honestly won't refuse you a v5, worst case it may require a bit of messing about but it's in their interest to let you register it, they get money that way.

  16. I agree the process looks daunting but actually, the DVLA in Swansea (I rang them a couple of times) and my local office were really helpful. They quickly realised I wasnt an importer and guided me through the forms. I needed an MOT (which was produced on the VIN rather than a registration number) and an insurance cover note (the insurer wouldnt provide a certificate until the bus was UK registered). I had the customs form and the USA title document (which I wanted to keep but didnt get back). Eventually a registration document was issued and it was all good from there. However, I know how scary it feels to hand over a huge wadge of cash to someone for a non running, non registered, non MOT'd chunk of metal. It will all turn out well in the end if my experience was anything to go by. Remember, the DVLA work for us! Good Luck.
