For sale: 1976 VW Camper. Current owner since August 2014; interior refit 2015 by Seymours of Newbury, including new fridge and cabinets, leisure circuit rewiring, full width rock and roll bed (blue leather) with matching heated front seats and new headlining and door cards; new 1776 cc SSP 100 bhp engine in 2015, plus oil cooler and brake servo; and a bare metal respray in 2020, carried out by Terry's Beetles of Hanwell. They valued the Camper at £32k, and that's the agreed insurance valuation. We've done about 6000 miles on the new engine, and last month a new front axle beam was fitted and a new Mot was obtained on 8th March 2022 at the Haynes Motor Museum's classic vehicle workshop. This has to be one of the best late bays available. Offers over £30k.
Thanks for the comments guys. I'm new to all this so forgive my naivety!! The Camper is in storage, because we've moved to a bungalow in Castle Cary, which doesn't have a garage. The insurance company insist it must be locked away overnight, and we can't afford to have a new garage built (sloping front garden, planning permission required etc), hence selling our beloved bus! And because the respray was done during lockdown Mk 1, we've hardly seen the poor thing! I'm getting it out of storage on Monday so will take loads more pics and post them here. But we're in love with the Campervan lifestyle, so will aim to buy a T5 or T6, funded by the sale of Campie.... Sorry for the long and boring story, but I hope that helps understand where we're coming from.....
I've just uploaded the photos I took today (exterior, engine bay and underside). Also uploaded, a picture of the interior taken just of the 2015 interior refit, plus the SSP engine spec. The current mileage is about 15,800, which means we've done about 6,000 miles since we bought it in 2014. We had two Weber carbs plus a Vintage Speed exhaust fitted in 2014. We have an extensive file of documents, covering the previous owner's restoration in 2010, plus everything we've done from 2014 to present. The work for the recent MoT also includes new front springs and dampers (as well as the front axle beam), and the engine has been tuned (ignition timing reset). We replaced the alloy wheels and small wood effect steering wheel with standard VW steel wheels and a 19 inch steering wheel making it so much easier to drive! Will happily answer any further questions, and can send further pictures and documents via email. Cheers, Jon B
Oops, didn't put in my contact details! We live in Castle Cary, Somerset, and my number is 07761 801772.
Incidentally, this is still registered as bei9e. Might be worth updating with DVLA. Did it have a load of welding done after the respray?
It’s nice but I think Terrys are quite a bit off . Brazzy Doors/ fit isn’t great , it’s a converted van and engine bay is scruffy .. id love you to prove me wrong and get over 30
Without sounding like an arse this is correct, the engine bay is awful, the fuel filter looks like its been there since new, the welding on the left is like........mine. Any photos under the belly pans ?
Good luck with the sale. Hopefully you will recoup the investment. But jubilee clips on a fuel line is a nono.
The MoT tester at Haynes Motor Museum was happy with the welding itself, but wanted the work tidying and underseal applied, so that's what was done. It then passed the MoT retest.
