Whilst setting the wheel alignment / toe in on the van the other day and swapping the front/ rear wheels over I noticed I have no balance weights at all on all 4 wheels!..
No wheel wobble etc whatsoever. Thought this rather odd, what do you think guys?.

  2. If you’re not wobbling, you’re fine!

Yeah, your right, just thought it was quite unusual.

Sometimes the weights are only on the inside of the rims.

I never had my Early wheels balanced...nobody had the mandrel for wide 5 wheels. No obvious problem but unbalanced wheels do accelerate wear even when you don't actually notice...so they say.

Just be careful when you go over 70mph as you might get some vibration through the steering wheel!!

What is the minimum speed at which wobble can be detected?

It can come in mainly over 45 mph ..i think .
I have had wobbles come and then go ...me and my wheels have a lot in common

I find it doesn't really become noticeable until about 70, so not much of a problem on most campers..

Although if it's miles out it might be noticeable at lower speeds.

I'd always get mine balanced even if you can't feel a wobble. It's not that expensive, and I'd probably get the tracking checked at the same time. Even if you don't drive at 70 mph, who knows how an unbalanced wheel might behave in an emergency brake situation?

When I did me split I set the tracking with a piece of string, front camber with a steel rule and did the tyres on me mates machine and did not balance them, seems fine even under the harshest acceleration, braking and at extreme high speeds.

    relatively speaking.

Show me a fairly clear motorway and good weather I'm 65mph minimum up to 75-80mph on occasion in the BMW lane.

My wheels are balanced including the spare but all the weights are on the inside so won't be perfect.

The only way my van would go over 70 mph is if i drove it over a cliff !. :D

It should be less of a problem with good quality tyres you would hope?

Hankook Optima 195/75 x 14 92S . Fitted by PO. I was surprised how well these handle and brake especially in the wet. Not really a van tyre though are they?
