Ignition Wiring

  1. 1973 Year.......attempting to rewire the dash etc, but memory aint what is was.....i.e 2 years ago.
Connected the ignition wires to the terminal block behind the dash......but have two extra wires.
Grey, and a brown one with a blue trace, any ideas where these two go?
Cant find them on a diagram, and then the only diagrams I can find for the year are those hard to follow jobs.......
    Ta.........

  2. Cheers.......When I've got a few weeks spare, I'll take a look!!! ;)

  3. Anybody????

  4. Where do the wires come out from exactly ? I looked at mine earlier but could not find wires those colours ??

If I remember correctly they are for US spec vans. The grey is (accessory circuit) so I think you may get power with ignition on accessory not ignition ON.

The br/blue I think is again US spec and for door open buzzer.

This is only from memory from doing mine so maybe wrong. :)

  5. Cheers for the reply..........They come out from the steering column cowl, together with the main ignition wires, all the other wires correspond to the wires in the vw multi connector behind the dash.

  6. Where they all connected when you took it apart ? I'm sure I read they were for US spec models when I re wired mine. maybe I am thinking of something else.

Try the grey wire in the accessory position ie no actual ignition on see if you get power ?

  7. Will do........next weekend, as the Van is in a workshop at the moment.
Pretty sure they were connected originally.
I'm also sure with a bit of concentration it will all become clear........bloody freezing last time, and that didnt help!!
Just wondered if anyone knew off the top of their head.....
    Cheers again for your help!

  8. No worries :) That's what we are all here for isn't it :)
