Hi, can anyone help please I Can’t work out how to remove the barrel and ignition switch, on my 1979 hi top any Ideas? The manual only covers early bays Got wheel off indicator stork and wiper storks out. Wires out. Small screw out by the barrel just can’t get the lower cover off around the barrel and switch. There looks like an Allen key bottom left of steering wheel but can’t find a key to fit 3mm to small 4mm go big. Didn’t want to buy a 3.5 if I don’t need to remove Any help would be awesome Thank you Steve
Found this on a post if it helps? http://www.ratwell.com/technical/SteeringColumn.html Sent from my SM-G975F using Tapatalk
I've done mine this morning, literally took 15 minutes, all done from the drivers seat Sent from my ELE-L09 using Tapatalk
If it’s just the switch you’re changing there is no need to remove the wheel or stalks (a stork is a bird by the way). The switch comes out the bottom and is held in with one screw. If it’s the barrel you’re removing this might help https://ratwell.com/technical/SteeringColumn.html#ignitionswitch
Thank you one and all, I’ll tackle this tomorrow as I had to come into work today. Discovered the wires don’t look to great to the switch so may replace them while I’m at it. So will make up a new loom. It makes me laugh when I see jobs done half hearted to get the van back on the road. It’s what you did back in the early 90’s to stay mobile. Thanks again and all the best
The bolt is a shear bolt, you need to chisel it off or hammer something in the end to unscrew it, then the steering lock etc will come off in one piece
Unless you're really lucky and the 6mm Allen head hasn't been sheered as mine wasn't - just an Allen key to remove it
