Iffy handbrake

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by bugfez, Aug 21, 2012.

  1. hi, every year my hand brake needs some 'attention' prior to the MOT.

im fairly sure the problem is the spreader bar(?) between the shoes, cant remember exactly as its been approx 11 months since i last had the hubs off!! but i think theyre different from one side to the other and im assuming they shouldnt be?!!

does anyone know if they are available new if not does any one have a pair that are correct for a 72 bay please?

i think your problem could be that 72 is one year only parts on rear brakes? poptop2 had a nightmare with his, hopefully he will see this and shed light on it for you, sorry i can't help other than to suggest you're probably right, odd parts sounds wrong.

  3. One year only shoes and spreaders Im afraid. I was going to buy later spreaders and shoes and fitting kit and convert em but no-one had the spreaders last tim. Ive welded the groove up and re filled a new one to get mine to work and they are pretty good now. Sure theres a tech thread somewhere I put some pics on when I did it!

  4. Thank you for your replies, im sure it is the exact same thing in that the hanbrake lever hits the hub before spreading the shoes enough to hold the van.
