If you haven't fitted speakers in your doors then don't!

  1. How about ensuring your window seals are good? I don't seem to have any water issues on my doors.

  2. The seals pass some water by design. Hence the liner and drain holes. Youre just lucky!

even modern cars will let water into doors, the point i'm making is if you just cut the plastic and poke speakers in the void without protecting the card/speaker then you will get water damage to the card and speaker plus water in the cab, there are 2 drain holes in my doors so i'm not worried about water into the door just stopping cards and speakers being ruined for those who haven't done it yet, by all means fit door speakers (horts) just think about the modification as well.

I got door speakers fitted in mine, and now you've got me worried! But i very much appreciate the heads up, and once this god damn rain stops falling for more than 24hours i will investigate the matter further. As yet no signs of water damage.
Oh and my speakers sound the dogs danglies imo!! ....Even the door ones! ;D

  5. Water will enter doors (esp Bays, which are a dodgy design), hence modern cars still having membranes.

Varnishing the cards won't do the trick. You need to route water down into the door. You need a flap behind the air vent, or your seat pedestals will flood, and suitable flappy bits behind any speakers.

  6. PS Mr Roo. You can peel the brown PVC trim off and fit it to new cards - 'tis possible. Still got two large speaker holes, tho' :(

yeah, i'll probably dry the wood out best i can then pva it to seal it, then either put the speakers back (with flaps) or just grilles to hide the holes, new cards etc are not on the list for a while as it don't stop me using the van.

  8. Ive cut the hole for the speakers and gaffer taped a plastic bag as the pocket for the magnet. I am also taking the advice given on here previously by some rather fine chap; and that is to silicon the plastic water seal to the door and then gaffer tape it.

Ive not fitted them yet as i think i need some welding done to the doors. I got some rather splendid new door cards etc from Delilah. Complete with cut outs for the speakers.

  9. Ill be fitting speakers in my doors

However ill be making some fiberglass pods to house them rather than fitting them straight into the door card

Hi Rick, those photos of your door cards look just like mine. I'm going to make some new ones from ply. Not sure weather to stick the old vinyl on or just varnish. I'm happy with door speakers, they sound good but i have made some plastic flaps to go behind them. When i painted my van i had the screen refitted with a brand new genuine vw seal but it leaked heavy on to the cab floor. I cured it with some silicone sealer . just a thin bead on a very thin nozzle btween the rubber and the frame on the outside.

  12. Without sounding like an a$% you can get External PVA which will prevent water ingress !

  13.
  14. No arguement there fella 8)
Was just highlighting the PVA availibility....................

  18. I've been considering speakers in my doors but would fit something like this to sort the water & tinny sound issues!
