  1. evening all

any one know much about 3D TV's?

I've had the same 32" TV for near on 10 years now, and I thought, despite not being able to afford it ....that I'm going to splash out on a new 47" 3D TV

...I know most people will say 3D is a bit of a gimmik .....but me and the family want one :p we have regular film nights at the weekend so we want something to bring the cinema experiance home to Diddy towers

.....but there are so many decisions .....and being tight, I want to get the best value one, at the cheapest price, that I will keep for another 10yrs or more :D

I've been looking at LG ones (as reccomended by a mate who's into home cinema), the kids are sold on the 'no more split screens for 2 player games' - with the glasses each of them sees their own game full screen on the same TV!!

what are the differances between these 2 (other than the price?)

any advice or other options appreciated :)

Do you or family members wear glasses to watch telly?
If yes are 3d glasses (failed gimmick) going to be wearable as well.

Full HD TV coupled with a good sound bar/surround system is all you need for that home cinema.

    3D is dead.

  4. I'd agree. 3D in it's current form is dead. A nice Panasonic with a sound bar is all you need...

  5. What's your budget

    Panasonic 4k oled 65"

But that's not for a few years yet

The lg with 3d glasses that are passive( they don't flicker and need battery's or a signal from the tv)
Are the ones to go for if the kids are using it for gaming.
I agree 3d is dead and 4k is the new 3d

Most have a good picture these days but of they are serious gamers they also have a lag.

  6. Cheers guys :)

Might be a silly question but what is 4k ? ...and will it be the next big thing to go for?

  7. 4k is so-called ultra hd. But it's not a format that's ever likely to broadcast over the air due to the bandwidth requirements. 3d is ok for blu-ray or gaming but otherwise a dead format IMHO...

  8. We have LG and Samsung. LG passive 3D. It's spot on. I found the active shutters work at the same frequency as the lights in the show rooms so you don't see the flicker, get them home and it's border line whether you'll have a fit or not. The LG passive uses a film in the screen and the same lenses they use in the cinemas. It also has an upscale setting so you can take 2D such as your typical sky HD fees and watch in 3D. Not as good as bespoke 3D but still pretty good. Wait for 4k as no one broadcasts yet, 3 years from now it will be old tech and diet cheap
    :)

  9. Check out Sainsburys btw. We got our LG for £400
    :)

  10. thanks guys :) .....didnt think of sainsburys ....will check them out

what do you all mean when you say 3D is a dead format (I'm not that cleaver wneh it comes to new tech!) ....most films at the cinema have 2D or 3D options, surely they will also be released on DVD in 3D?

  11. ....and what about blue ray (again, something I dont know much about) ....I know its supposed to be better quality, but will that be dieing off or is it hear to stay?

bear in mind, I put off buying a CD player when they first came out thinking it was a flash in the pan! .....quite a few years later minidiscs arrived and I thought that was the future format .....so I bought a minidisc player ....and it died a death!!!

...If I'd been old enough at the time I prodably would have ended up with a Betamax (my parents had one!)

Last time I bought a TV, no-one could get close to these guys on price:

John Lewis is another place to look as you get a much longer guarantees and I think they do a price match.

I think its only sky now that broadcasts some 3D . the public didn't take to it very well, HD was a much better picture than ever before and no need for glasses.

  15. We bought a LG passive 3D tv when they first came out quite a few years ago. So they are about a 1/3 off the price now.
It's a great tv glasses are cheap as chips if the children break them it's not a problem unlike active ones.
For how much they are now it's worth getting one with it in.

Can't remember the last time we watched somthing in 3d. Keep forgetting to check sky to what's on. They do some good films in 3d.

And I'll second John Lewis with their guarantee.

  16. Third john lewis they also keep the record so if you loose the receipt you can call up.

LG passive 3d tv if you want it for the split screen gaming and not the 3d.
    wouldnt worry bout bluray

  17. John Lewis would be my prefered supplier :)

closest one to what I want is this one (still a bit pricey really)

    http://www.johnlewis.com/lg-47lb650v-led-hd-1080p-3d-smart-tv-47-with-freeview-hd/p1365122

can also get it from this place at the same price with 5yr guarentee - (they do some other LG 47" cheaper but they are not available in local store :( )

    http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/lg/47lb650v/lg-47lb650v

the kids are sold on the split gaming mode ......so I guess its got to be an LG

...the kids did say they would give me some of their pocket money towards it   ...........I couldnt .......could I

Richer Sounds are great. They're run and staffed by people who know what they're talking about which makes a nice change!
I'm sure they'll get you one to your local store if they stock them elsewhere.
