replaced fuel pipes then slotted her home i think the hardest job was getting the tank hose on. never again
looks amazing, tank hoses are a nightmare, i did mine with the engine in, i dont know how i managed to twist my arm around!! On another note where did you get the phenolic block inlet gaskets from?
I had a couple of mates waiting to help put the engine in when i remembered about the fuel pipe so i was under pressure to get it on in a hurry. After ten mins. i gave up and let someone else have a go but they couldn't get it on. Then it started to snow . . The next plan worked. I put the pipe in a bucket of hot water and covered it in fairy liquid. It was still a pig to get on. The engine went in quicker. Those inlet gaskets came in the engine gasket kit from GFS. I,ll not use them. Got some thin fibre ones for my DRLA's. 8)
can you answer what is probably a really dumb question !! (but hey thats what the site is for ?) I have a 78 westy I an restoring .. (US bus) the side penetrations ? two I have sorted (elec in which I plan to move somewhere less obtrusive) and the lower one is water in ? but we have a tank so why bother..? But in my excitement stripped the westy units out (now hiding at the back of the garage) and didnt work out what the third penetration was for ? Any clues before I weld & fill it up !!! Got the new engine running without any snags. Butt twitching a lot. Then you think it's never a good idea to paint things that get hot. Set the timing and went for a drive arround the block. Still twitching. All ok. Used the van for work, about 3 miles each way, for a couple of weeks. Oil leak from left rocker cover. Changed gasket 3 times then finaly sorted it with silicone sealer left overnight to dry. Oil leak from all 4 pushrods on left side. Twisted them 180 degrees. sorted. Oil leak from all 4 pushrods on right side. Did the same. sorted. Took van on motorway up to 60mph. Butt twitching again. All ok. Loaded van to the max inc. wife, 2 kids and mother'in'law then went to the lakes. Drove well, no problems. Its just the same as it was but a bit quieter and the oil light doesn't flash on now. After 500 miles, changed oil and filter (hallfords 15/40). adjusted tappets and carbs.
Spent a week on Northumberland coast. Notched up a few more miles. Fantastic beeches and castles etc. Miles of golden sand and about 3 people. Kids went swimming in the sea once the ice melted.
Even the camp site was deserted. On the last day we came back to the site and this van was camped next to us. It was a rebuilt one from G'day kombi's. Seemed to be top quality workmanship.
Alnmouth, very nice. You can park right by the sea. White bay in front was a hire van. People that hire vans don't seem to be that friendly i find. Is it just me?
