Hi all. I have a genuine bosch vac adavance dizzy in my garage. question is. how do i know if it is a good'un. How do i check for play etc. what do i look at? it wont be taking points just elec ignition. Cheers.
Blow thru ya vacum pipe or is it suck looool...makes sure it moves and doesnt stick ..... check o ring .....chck cap for cracks...check rotor for same...clean the leccy conctions...should be cool...
Thanks should there be any vertical play in the rotor shaft? THere is no lateral movement but there is vertical movement.
There was thin steel shims and fibre washers under the dog, I expect the fibre washers have dismantled themselves leaving the movement. The most common prob with these I've found is the mech advance sticks when they get warm, so might be fine when you stick it in. You've soon find out, time it up and go for a spin. If it timing has advanced when you get back the mechanism is sticking. Dismantle clean and lubricate. If you have to keep doing this, sling it?
Fibre not felt more like bakelite consistency - you can buy them in assorted blister packs all over the place - even B&Q most likely. Lots of distributers have lost them without any apparent ill effet...
Cheers for the info. its off to Ignition solutions for a rebuild. £106 inc. Cheaper than a new one and probably better. JK want £150 for a bosch mex one.
