  1. this might be a little bit of a rant... but i havent really managed to get anything done on my bus this last 2 weekends.
ive cut the inner, middle and outer sills from the offside of my bus (non sliding door side)

but theres the little l shaped lip welded onto the bottom on the cargo floor, running the length of the bus.

    i cant get them off!

i tried to drill the spot welds from the top.. and half the holes i drilled dont even go through the sill..
so i tried peeling the sill off the bottom, but it just makes the drill holes massive!
then i thought id do it the tough way, get under there with a grinding disc and grind it all off... but thats barely working and will take weeks.

has anyone got any other better ideas? its driving me mad and i cant progress till i get them off. grrr...

  2. So is it the original lip from the sill you have removed?

should just be spot welded, maybe ats been replaced in the past?

The spotwelds are large. I use 8mm spotweld drill which is the smallest you can get them with. Clean the floor inside with wire brush on grinder and shine a light so you hit them exactly in the middle. Like everything it's all in the prep - even drilling welds out!

  7. what zed said ^^^

cant remember about the non sliding side, but on the sliding door side there is another row of spot welds for a floor filler piece running parallel with the spot welds for the sill....so had to be carefull I drilled out the right ones

but as zed said, you should be able to get them from the top. Might be worth unpicking the sill from the top hats and I sections first, that way you can pry the sill back and forthand the ones you have only partly gone through should snap or at least make it visible which ones still need a bit more attention. freeing up one end can some times help, as you can get under the bus and run along the length with a small chisel 'popping' the bits that the drilling has missed

  8. ill get some pics tomorrow if i remember.
i ran a flap disc over the floor and it show'd up all the spot welds. probably around 80 of the buggers, i used a 4mm drill. so thats probably why, ill go up a few sizes and try again.
    cheers zed.
and yeah ill try the chisel idea too, i was using a screwdriver to pry it off as i dont have a chisel, but that was just making the holes bigger and denting the floor.

think i used an 8 or 10mm drill bit and still struggled, ended up just cutting the whole floor out lol!

  10. i actually thought of that.. i thought it would be less time consuming, but might be making a mountain out of a molehill.

    believe me, it isnt :(
going to be lovely when i get the shiney new floor in, and its soooooooooooooo much easier for the chassis, top hat, outrigger and sill repairs i need to do. but its damn expensive, a lot of work, and they only sell lhd floors so you have to fettle them a bit!

It's definately time consuming but a good idea if all your floor supports are rotten as well.
