How long is your clutch tube?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Juneau, Jul 6, 2014.

  1. Clutch cable snapped today. While replacing it I noticed part of the metal tube had snapped.

The metal tube runs fron front to rear. Where it stops near the gearbox it is welded to a metal bracket. A short section of the tube extends beyond the bracket, providing a mounting point for the flexible section of tube.

It is this short section of metal tube that has snapped off at the bracket.

Could anyone confirm how long this section of tube should be?

Also, if anyone has a photograph of this area (where the steel and flexible tube meet) that woudl be really helpful.

    Thanks

If you put a straight edge against the rear of the torsion tube and set it vertically, the end of the tube should line up-ish.

  3. Excellent tip. Thanks

I mend them quite often. If they're too short, the flexible bit doesn't make a nice S shape and the clutch is more grabby.
You need a bit the same size and a bigger bit for a sleeve.
