How does M code 065 look like?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by HermanDT2b, Nov 3, 2020.

  1. The M plate of my 1976 panel van states (a.o.): M 065: Writings for maximum axle loads and maximum weight.

    Does anyone know how this would look like? Any photos?

    Cheers!

    I think you’re talking about the axle weight or maximum gross weight plate. I don’t know where the plate was situated or what it looked like but according to that info the maximum axle weight - 950kg front axle and 1150kg rear axle.

    As an aside, I kind of remember they could be uprated by changing the torsion springs to heavier duty for certain commercial use.

  3. It may just be on one of the plates riveted behind the driver's seat?

  4. No plates behind the driver's seat....

  5. Mine is also an ex commercial , 1975 Dutch postal van prior to being bought and converted in the UK about 1979 ...

    Both were riveted to the bulkhead , one behind each seat , dunno if these are the plates you`re looking for ??
    Note the red paint - Dutch post van red :D

  6. That second plate is the same as fitted to ex army vans too showing the maximum axle weights. My westy didn't have that so maybe its a commercial only plate?

  8. My german doesn't extend to tech stuff but i'm guessing it reads ..
    unladen = 1010 kg,
    max load = 1300 kg
    Overall = 2300 kg
    Along with the chassis number ...

    Gross front axle = 1010 kg
    Gross rear axle = 1300 kg
    Gross weight = 2300 kg

    But I don’t know why the gross isn’t 2310kg.

  10. Agreed , a rare lapse in German efficiency or someone just thinking " bugger it , that's near enough . I'm off to meet Inga from gearbox assembly for schnapps and a game of hide ze wurst ..."

    :thinking: mine has a plate like that, I think you'll find all models do. My Westy did, my Devon does.

    It’s very comforting having your wonderful knowledge as back up to my bumbling posts Zedders it’s like having a fail safe or default setting. Cheers :)

    The Devon was probably a panel van anyway I know ours is/was. The westy was definitely a combi, so you’re probably right.

  17. Wow, thanks for all the information! I going to look for the additonal plate.

    My Devon has proper windows whatever that makes it.
    The plate is funny with it's one odd bit in English and the rest in German.
