How do you lower a bus, slightly

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Baydreams, May 24, 2012.

  1. All I hear is dropped spindles this and that and adjutable this and that. It's all a bit confusing. I just want to lower the bus very slightly, 1 to 2 inches (she seems to sit slightly higher than stock, so I just want her sitting at stock or very slightly under). So, bearing in mind that I'm a complete Numpty, can someone explain how it's done, not bodged, but how it's properly done and if someone with zero mechanical experience could do it themselves.

  3. there is no such thing as lowering properly
front is lowered by dropped spindles (expensive) or beam adjusters (a pain to fit)
rear is done be moving the spring plates (free) or fitting adjustable spring plates

    this is what i did:
front beam out, beam adusters welded in
rear spring plates adjusted 1 spline

the ride is firmer but not too harsh. i didnt replace the shocks as i didnt get round to it, but its advisable to replace them for shorter units. i dont get that wallowing feeling when on the motorway now

you will struggle to do this with zero mechanical experience as removing, stripping and welding the beam is a mare and may be a it much for a total beginner. you will also need to cut the bumpstops off the beam

  4. Or lots of bricks lol I've done mine on the front with ajusters you have to weld in and I'm doing the back now my takeing the rear spring plates off and moving them up 1 spline

  5. found some before and after pics if they help

  8. that was the beam adjusters about 3/4 the way down. i can lift the front up if i want
if i was to lower your bus i would weld in front adjusters and lower it 2 inches and knock the rear plates round 1 spline
total cost was £100 for the parts

Adjusters are the way forward for what you want and you don't need to change the shocks.
Dropped spindles require smaller tyres and non-adjustable ride height. Fact. I don't think you'd like that. :)

  10. Hello mate I've had mine done the same as Aussie adjuster on the front and 1 spline at the rear here's a before and after pic
