How do overriders fit with deluxe bumper trim?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Fronkjunior, Mar 10, 2012.

  1. Hi, I hope you can share your experience/knowledge with me please. How do you fit overriders with deluxe rubber bumper trims. I understand that I will need to change the profile of the standard overriders to fit over the trim strip and have been told I will have to do away with the clamps and bolt straight to the bumpers

How would I do this second part and fir them to the bumper? Bolt from below? On the front?

    All help greatly appreciated.

    Regards

Gusbus has delux overriders & all we did to pass the bolt through both the rubber strip and bumper was to fasten the deluxe rubber into place and take a long drill & drill through the rubber and bumper and bolt right through.

    A bit like:

I fitted mine with L shaped brackets from B&Q. And drilled through the top ad bottom of the bumper for the bolts.

Because mine were from an prototype I made a rough template to allow for the deluxe trim.

The fit wasn't bad but could have done with a little less out of the deluxe trim part.

mine are u.s overriders with deluxe trim, instead of a bracket you have a bolt running through with a captive head hidden by the bump strip on the overrider, you have to drill a hole straight through the trim and bumper and put the nut on the back, if you click the link in my signature one of the early videos shows me removing the rears to explain, the rears are easy as you can get to the back to put the nut on but the fronts require you to remove the bumper then refit and drill the trim and bolt on the overrider, you will have to drill the hole in the deformation panel bigger to let the head of the nut sit in it, i fitted fronts yesterday have a look at my show us your ride for pics of the holes, you need to be dead centre as your're drilling a hole through the tension strip that holds the trim on, and it needs to be tensioned as you drill and fit the overrider, this is fun when you refit the bumper as you don't get much room to fit a spanner in to tighten the bumper bolts up, i forced a hammer stale in to give me some space. hope this helps, if not ask away.

Got a master plan to fit my overiders, my brother is cutting out some 50mmX25mm box tube that just about fits over the rubber deluxe strip, this will be bolted to the bumper like so:-

Two holes will be drilled through the box one on each of the 2 long flats, then an 8mm stainless nut will be welded on the outside of the box section, the overider can then be bolted to the box section:-

The back bumper is now fitted:-

  8. Thanks to my brother Richard I got my stainless steel brackets, & bolted the front 2 on. Its not that clear in the picture but there is a bolt welded to the outside of the bracket that will hold on the overider:-

Started then on the back, I had to remove the bumper again to fit the stainless brackets, I'll order the rear rubber trim on Monday the front one is off Chug Chug it survived the fire.:-
