My nephew lived in the type 2 for a month in Cornwall, came back home every week 4 a wash and laundry.. I suppose the mooring is always going to be a issue, that would put me off . We've been invited for a week on a canal boat in France, been trying to avoid it, but I think my excuses are running out! Btw @Zed this one has been over the channel, is it a special one? Btw this forum is ace when buying anything Sent from my ART-L29 using Tapatalk
Canal boats in France tend to be on a larger scale than than UK narrowboats. Could be a dutch barge, could be anything. Canals in France are proper size and still used commercially. Canals in UK are ditches you can stand up in.
Sounds like Vic 99 is 'mored' on the river bed , probably never move again. It can't get through a lock due to the hull bulging after a fire ....or three.
Those people there seem to have a pleasant time in the summer months. It’s a proper working boatyard where some people stay on their boats and rebuild them slowly, they do seem to take years in some cases, in other cases the boat comes in and gets repaired and it’s back on the river again in no time. The owner is a shipwright and apparently knows his stuff, but it’s an odd existence and winter always looks bleak down there to me. It’s been one of my regular walks for years.
It’s a shame that Mr or Mrs Vic 99 didn’t have a bit more imagination when putting the top part on They should have been thinking more Agatha Christie death on the Nile As opposed to channel ferry
Living on boats permanently whilst renovating them on land must be a bit of grey area from a residency perspective ie Council Tax etc?
No, just an observation based on rules I encountered with a permanent caravan pitch in Wareham Forest 20 years ago.
One minute were talking about people paying their share of tax ... next potentially not doing so makes me bitter and selfish ... cant have it both ways Zed
