^ My neighbour would never complain......he's a paint sprayer and car repairer and he does all his spraying in a Gala type tent. Very nice guy and good for free advice when I did mine. :)

  3. I'd say go for it Malc. Especially if you can practice on a spare panel (maybe from any old car in a scrap yard?) first. Then if it turns out terrible, rub it back and get the pro's in.

Go for it - you can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It must be an awesome feeling to stand back and think "I did that".

    Good luck xxx

I'd never discourage anyone from having a go themselves,
your biggest enemy is damp cold air and lack of extraction in winter,
Celly in particular will run off the panels or bloom if its too cold,
if you're going to warm your garage up with one of those parafin blower heaters cos theres not much else that'll do it, just dont turn it back on too soon after you've sprayed or there'll be no garage van or you!!

    Good luck.

  7. I say half and half

If your mate is happy to take it in then you can do all the prep at his ....and spray in a nice dust free environment ..........If you get as board as I did then he can take it over :)

If I'd had the air fed masks I would have been tempted to spray mine in 2K ..........but the prep work took away all my motivation ;D

I don't think he would go for that Dale :(

  9. shame :(

if he does it for a good price, you would get a good job and youd get it back quicker at least

  10. Not sprayed a car/van before other than localised repairs with rattle cans but I do have 3hp single phase compressor here so I got myself a cheap SIP gravity feed gun off ebay for about £30 to spray my bike bits.

Flatted back so there were no furrows in the paint and gunned on some primer. Flatted back with 800-1000 wet and dry until smooth. Thinned out some 2 pack and sprayed it on. Let it flash off for about 20 mins then took it out in the sun to dry.

It was all good except for the fact the air fed mask I was wearing had had the filters removed. :laugh2:

The painting is the easy bit. The work is in the prep. Just make sure you have the appropriate safety kit. :-X

Here's my effort. Not perfect but reasonably good enough to stand up to scrutiny.

  12. I'm going for it in 2 weeks time. Celly in a large tent on the front drive. Hope the weather stays dry & warm enough.
