Home business ideas?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Abba567, Mar 7, 2012.

  1. To cut a long story short I'm a qualified primary teacher currently doing supply teaching, only a day or two a week as there's not much work around. Anyway we are expecting our first baby in the autumn and it makes alot more sense for me to stay at home to look after the baby, so question is does anyone have any business ideas I could run from home? I'm fairly goods with my hands, I did everything on my van including all upholstery and don't have a lack of space so any ideas?

    Thanks

From my experience you can make a fair amount from buying and selling stuff/rubbish on eBay. My mum used to trawl charity shops for McDonalds toys and sell them on eBay - people will pay a lot of money to complete a set - she once sold a complete set of 101 Dalmations for over £100. It did take a long time for her to collect them all but at a few pence each to buy it was a good profit.

You could do similar for anything that has a market - it depends how much you want/need to make.

  3. I'm hoping to earn about £250 a week to cover all the bills, I've tried buying and selling books but the price of them just seems to be rocketing so means less profit in it.

  4. hi as you are a qualified teacher what about tutoring? either exam revision or find your local home ed community and see if they want to orgainse some group tuition ( we have language teachers that do that here in sheffield)

Use what skills you have, but go private. Offer tuition and help etc, maybe once baby is a bit older consider training in nursery care and become a nanny. That way you can look after your baby at the same time.

Ebay etc are great for selling tat but to make it a reliable business you need something tangible to sell, and a regular supply. It's also very cut throat, there will always be someone prepared to offer it for 1p less than you.

Alternatively, if you liked and were good at the upholstery, speak to people like Delilah on here and maybe see if you can work for her on a pay per piece basis if she gets too busy. It might not be regular business but it will add up with other jobs...
