Finally getting around to replacing my home combi boiler I think I have narrowed it down to a Ideal Logic max or is the Vogue max any better the only difference I can see is a extra 2 years warranty. Or any other recommendations.
The ideals are good boilers to be honest I fit a lot of glow worm ultimates you can buy them with a 10 year parts and labour warranty for 600 plus vat and they are really good.
i fit loads of ideals and I’ve got a big list of them that I service every year. IMHO they are the best overall on the market. You get a solid build, easy install, easy service, easy parts availability, spot on back up from ideal and a long warranty all in a price a lot lower than a comparable vailant or the dreaded worshi**er Bosch My tips are. Forget the 24kw Logic, go for the 30Kw as a min and if you have a decent mains flow rate and it’s not a long gas run from the meter then even the 35kw Logic. The vogue is a lovely boiler, a lot of people like the full colour plain english display and the fact they have a stainless heat exchanger. They have a slightly higher output and dhw flow rate if your house allows it. 32kw instead of 30kw on the Logic. Two years longer warranty. They are a larger boiler in size, not a cupboard fit like the Logic, so more suited to a utility room, garage, loft type install. if I can be of any help, fire away.
Another top tip. The previous generations of ideas controls were pony. They were called Connect. Do not allow anyone to fit them in your house. They are heavily discounted. I have recently fitted their new Halo WiFi controls. It’s a nice bit of kit. In fact it’s good enough that I’m actually thinking about fitting one at home. The connect is that bad that when I literally could have had a free one for my house from ideal I declined.
That’s great that’s basically what the guy fitting it said. Space isn’t that important as it’s going in the loft once it’s insulated and boarded.
I swear by Vaillant, we have two, one at home, one in a property we let. 8 or ten year guarantee. Tony
Same here. Just had my 13 year old Vaillant serviced. Mentioned to the bloke that I was kind of waiting for the death rumble. Why? He asked. He said they’re great boilers, easy to work on, and every part is available as a spare.
Vailants work well on clean systems, but they are a pig if there’s contamination. If you’ve got a valiant. Keep on top of your chemicals. Add an £8 bottle of inhibitor every five years and they will go on for ever. Let them block up and you are into a new boiler as the design of the heat exchanger means you can’t power flush them properly and the water pressure switches hate contamination.
My heating engineer says our Vaillant boilers can stay in service indefinitely, just need a little service once a year. All spares are available and simple to install. Tony
Our Ideal is nearly 20 years old now. Not the most efficient compared to modern standards but damn are they well built and super simple. Any good recommendations on a good system boiler replacement though to give me an idea of repalcement prices?
Ok so I’d personally go for the vogue system boiler. Ideal now use a company called Gledhill to make their unvented cylinders. They are really good, badges as an Ideal, but basically a Gledhill. Your merchant will be able to get them as a system boiler/cylinder bundle and there can be substantial savings.
