Hiring a van

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by dookie, Dec 12, 2012.

  1. My boss at work says he wants to hire out a van for all of August to tour France, he also said he wanted to hire mine for £900. I think this might be a good idea, but what do you lot think?

    Cheers

  2. No not a good idea you have to know how to look after and drive these old vans.
Would £900 get you an engine ?

Look how much hire companies charge. £900 would get him about 2 weeks.
    Bad idea.

August? ... surely you'll be wanting to use it yourself anyway? And if anything goes wrong, it might damage your working relationship - better to keep separate aspects of your life separate. And £900 is really too cheap!

  7. he is your boss ,give him the van for free..... 8)

be a good chap and fill it up with petrol and maybe buy tea coffee etc...

  9. His boss will insist he works all August..

Give him my campsite details [in France]we can have a good laugh by the campfire...

Have a look on a few hire sites. A quick look shows a minimum of £500 a week!
Regardless of price it's still a bad idea.

  11. Seems like he wants a bargain hire rate from you and will then be *******ed off if something goes wrong. If he breaks something, you will be stuffed too, as he's your boss, so you can't complain. Tell him you're already planning a road trip and get some events booked for August quickly, preferably covering yourself to be away for 3 of the weekends so he can't fit in around you. Finally, pass him the name of a reputable bay hire company to appear helpful!

  12. never mix work and pleasure... ;)

  13. I agree don't hire ( for money ) to people you know ...

member on here ( occasionally) called statts hires his out, on twitter as @camperscape if you tweet ask him the pitfalls/prices? i wouldn't hire mine to my boss for £1000 a day. The only other person that's driven mine is poptop.

  15. I was talking to statts at teckenders, he uses rev limiting rotor arms to stop his engines being thrashed by people that hire them. Think you'd have to be mad to hire one out without one.

  16. I am going to lend mine to my daughet and her boyfriend for a week. But I have taken her through all the basics - oil, red warning lights etc etc. In any case she lent me the money to buy it in the first place...

  17. i would not hire it out to my boss either.. as it could cost you a fortune to fetch it back if its breaks down by the idiot trying to do 80 mph down the autobahnn
