Higest profile tyres for 3inch drop

  1. Just had 3" lower spring plates fitted by Red9 in out '73 with 1.9IDI Diesel conversion.
The current setup is 15" Audi wheels with 195/60 but it sits too low and the gear ratio is all to cock.

Went to my local Tyre purveyor but the only tyres he had were 195/65. Had a right old time getting the old ones off due to the gap between the drum and arch.

I understand that the tallest tyres available are 195/80. If I can get them im not sure that ill be able to get them on.

Whats the wisdom of the forum here? My thoughts were: Get 2" drop spring plates from Red9 or get adjustable ones. Or get 195/80x15 and fit them flat and blow them up in situ. Or fit a different wheel and tyre package.
    What do you guys think?

  2. ok, im worried now, I have 195/65/15s on at the moment at stock height but have bought 3.5 inch horse shoes for the rear with the intention of fitting them with 14inch stock steels, do you think ill struggle getting the rear wheels off with such a drop?

    B

  3. you might want to check the drum to arch clearance. Red9 advise fitting from the rear and wriggling round (sounds odd but it worked for me)

  4. I have adjustable spring plates on mine, with 195x65x15 wheels on the rear, and they come straight off once you jack the bus up.
