Help with door hinges please.

  1. Both of my front doors are completely butchered so I'm looking for good replacements but sellers keep talking about this hinge and that hinge.. Can anyone tell me what hinges are on mine?

  2. Well you know what a hinge looks like... its the part that the allen bolts go through, or in your case, only one does.

You have pre-76 hinges, later ones fit differently, you can distinguish them by the countersunk holes for the allen bolts, where as the newer ones are flat and have normal hexagonal bolts. pre 76' hinges also thread into the "A" post on the bus, where as the newer ones have threads in the hinges themselves.

  3. You can get a hinge coversion kit, so you can put early hinges on a late door or late hinges on an early door, but ideally you want to avoid the hassle of swapping round. The only thing you need to remember is that the shape of the bottom of the door is diffrent upto '72, so if you get a door from a pre '73 van and try to put it on a '73-'76 van, you might find the door scrapes the step slightly. It doesn't always, but it's something to be aware of.

  4. Many Thanks for the info :)
