Hello I'm a Newbie!

  1. Welcome Neptune from another Leics vdubber, thats a lovely bus & I agree with the adoption comment as I do believe these buses find the owner not the other way round, I wasn't even looking for a camper when ours somehow found us, we have been the custodians for one year so not that far ahead of you on that learning curve, I have yet to scratch the surface of whats involved in being a camper custodian!

Tekenders is a must if you want to learn about your bus from from others who have the same passion you will find the details here http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/tekenders-whos-going.20645/ so get your name down, I have so don't be shy as April will be our first Tekenders too plus first time meeting some other TLBer's who have helped us over the last 12 months.

Our bus is currently stashed away but I will be dusting her down and bringing her home at easter, we are North Leics near the space centre where abouts are you?

I also only know of one aircooled club called air cooled unlimited they meet once a month at the foxhunter, google them as they have a website & a little forum for informing members of meets etc.

Take it easy & enjoy your bus :)

  4. awww I feel well and truly welcomed into the fold, thanks for all the replies I already feel like we belong!
So Yes Tiny Pie count me in what do I need to do next?
So a bit more about the bus, as I said its very original so I understand that in 1979 pressure activated rear brake lights were not standard so I'm wondering how everyone else deals with this. Does it cause issues? is there a problem with boy racers bumping the back of our precious buses? I was wondering if there is some kind of sensitive light upgrade that can be done, something that will not affect the overall appearance of the bus but just make it easier for the other drivers to see when I'm breaking. This is something I am concerned about I cant lie. Would be good to know what you all think and am I being a panic pants? LMAO
We collect our beautiful bus on Sunday, we have had to sort out insurance, breakdown cover so hence the delay in collecting her - oh and she still doesn't have a proper name yet. Are all buses girls? like ships ?stupid questions I know but these things do matter don't they?
We are collecting her from Burnley so we have a long trek down the motorway to Leicester and we haven't driven her for any length of time before so that should be interesting.
First port of call will be home clearly then as soon as we can I want to take her over to Absolute VW in Castle Don for a quick health check. We really have bought blind on this which some would say is very silly but I can believe how personal this has all become so quickly. I couldn't bear the thought of someone else having her and not treating her with the respect she deserves. Even if there is something wrong that needs big money, we are in for the long haul and ready!
I cant wait to meet all of you and check out your buses too, I never realised this was so social! Robo and vdub bruvs I will be in touch shortly and yes lets meet at the Tekenders thing, nice to have some local like minded chums!

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

...and decided she's best left to rot in the garden while they swoosh about in a warmer, more modern van. ;)

  16. If you get nowhere with Absolute there's always Autohaus Dolby close to the M1 in Sheffield. I emailed Simon at Absolute with a list of jobs I needed doing recently and they never replied.

  17. Thanks for the info I mailed him today so lets see what happens, Absolute is very close to us so would be nice and convenient )

  18. Hello Everyone, Just to let you know we collected our bus yesterday and drove her to her new home with us from Burnley to NW leics.
It was kinda emotional taking her away from her previous owners, sad and happy in equal measure, and we have promised to stay intouch, by updating them on where we go and our bus adventures........
Great journey, no major events and one rolling repair to the wing mirror that needed tightening up because it kept flopping down as we drove along! Neil had a short lesson from the previous owner to learn the idiosincratic ways of driving a bus and we were on our way. She drove lovely all the way home and even in the high winds and bad weather we fell instantly in love with her!
Today Neil is taking her to our favourite mechanic to have her checked over to make sure shes safe and to see if there is anything we should do immediatley on the repairs.
The heater isnt great on these old gals is it? hahaha not sure if its blocked somehow or if they are just a bit inefficient in general - never mind until we get that looked at we will stay fair weather bus drivers for the moment.
It was wonderful to chug along and I was surprised at how quiet she is. Various people had a good look and smiled as we chugged down the motorway and someone in a new Transporter gave us our first special bus 'wave' totaly awesome!
No pics at the moment, I need to download them from the camera and take some more when its not so blooming cold!
Wish us luck with the mechanic guy today, more updates later!
