The most I've seen was one under tank and one in engine area. I thought you said fuel was getting from tank to pump. Take the fuel cap off and get somebody to blow from the pump pipe, you should hear bubbles in the tank, meaning it's clear to there.
Right that problems sorted. Cheap nasty filter had top twisted, not by ever tightening but by twisting it on to the hose!! Now got fuel, back to my original issue now, stalling as soon as you take foot off the gas? Idle control valve working, revs dropping off at junctions and stalling. Carb cleaned and idle jet swapped, exactly the same problem??

ps this started happening suddenly on one day with no warning. I've swapped the idle control valve but still the same. Points checked aLso.
Yes but turned out it was the new filter twisted. Still didn't work after the new pump so that led to the filter.
Just got back indoors.....exactly this. Reset carb following a helpful bloke at VW Heritage (George). He suggested resetting the carb which I did, now running perfect again. Wouldn't have expected it to go straight out of tune like that, but it did. Cheap carbs for you. Anyway headache over, thanks for all your help and ideas. I swear these VWS are alive! Shes getting sold this week and not had any issues in the last year or so. My bus threw its gearbox the day before it sold, never had a problem with the gears before! I had actually just tapped him on the dash telling him to let me know if he doesn't want to go!
Check this filter out, completely twisted without too much pressure. The hose was a bit tight but didn't expect this to twist that a easy! Now fitted a Bosch one and you can feel the difference in strength straight away.
Exactly! I didn't bother to check that as you wouldn't expect that to happen, it's completely twisted!
Ha oh yes so you did, would normally have checked that first but really didn't twist that hard. Good call mate
