if you want to go on dirt roads around here ARB is not recomended
Biggest cause of wandering all lover the road is worn-out steering bits (the main one is the bell crank up and down movement) and rear wheels pointing the wrong way (rear and front wheel alignments)

  2. I restored Lottie to stock spec and the first few trips out were a bit frightening in the roll department especially roundabouts, left-right-left, worst than my marching as a sprog naval rating. The original 40 year old ARB was quite pitted and may have had a bit more torsional flex than when new. Fitting a HD front bar from JK made a big difference, especially for my wife who felt quite unwell after a few winding miles with with the original.

  3. I’m sure that will work but you’ve made the suspension stiffer all the time, not just when cornering. Although my bus is lower it’s probably still the most comfortable vehicle I own as it still has lots of suspension travel and isn’t too stiff.

FYI my front arb would hit the ground if it was fitted in the factory location under the trailing arms - but it works just as well mounted on top and gives you a bunch more clearance plus the clamps I found easier to fit when they are this way up too.

  4. Anyone ever driven their stock van without the roll bar in place? I've never been convinced they actually do much.

I need the front suspension stiffer as there is 75mm less travel before rubbing . Back in 2005 someone cut and twist lowered my bus messed it up, next 4 owners drove it about 400 miles each before selling. I finally fitted the coilovers as the solution.
The front beam has failed to fail an MOT since despite rotting, cracking and patching up...

  6. Mine snapped and I couldn't get underneath to sort it properly for over a month or so so took off the arb . The month included a week away and a few long summer weekends , I was a bit dubious about things at first but all's well that ends well ...
Only difference seemed to be a bit 'wobblier' off road

  7. Always seemed odd to me that it's not clamped to the chassis in the middle.

It doesn’t need to be clamped to the chassis as it’s fixed to the trailing arms, if it had drop links then it would – like the rear ARB (if you have one).

  9. I had to google for "heavy duty ARB" and when i did, i found this :-

I fully approve and will be converting my bay into a unimog imminently. Everyone else around here has 4x4's for off roading, farming and military operations - i assume - and so I reckon i should join them!
