Heater Tube Y Piece

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by jmarchant1970, Jun 7, 2020.

  1. Does anyone know how to remove the Y shape rear heater tube. The one that goes up and over the rear axle. I need to replace the crossmember that goes above it
    Cheers

What condition is your y piece in? Try and keep it intact and left alone if it’s in any reasonable condition.

Are you only replacing the cross member, or any other bits around it too? I only ask as you may be better grafting in just section of the floor support if that’s all it needs, or if you’re doing the sill at the same time you could slide the floor support in from the side.

When the bus was built in the factory they started with that Y-piece and fitted everything else above, below and around it. Removing the floor makes it easier to remove – refitting it is another story.

  4. Nope, just the x member. Everything else is solid. Sounds like a bit of a nightmare coming my way. The Y piece looks solid too

I have just replaced the y piece and you can't remove the y piece without cutting it to bits, replacement parts are terrible quality and nowhere near oe quality, if it is in good condition I would leave it alone

I would do whatever is required to leave the Y piece in position and in one piece.
