Heat Shield or Not

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Mark Hodgson, May 12, 2020.

  1. So my Type 4 has had the heatexchangers cut off just leaving the headers, do I need to;
    1. manufacture some heat shields,
    2. remove the lower shields,
    3. both the above,

    As I understand you can buy naked headers and they don't say to address header to head heat transfer or shielding.

    Your thoughts?

  2. My heat exchangers are exactly the same apart from I've wrapped them in exhaust wrap.

    Never had any issues.

    There's a thread on here somewhere with the dimensions to make the underneath tins.
    Think that they are required to help eith air flow, particularly around thermostat.

    Its the short exhaust stubs before the working T4 heat exchangers with the air flow through the exchangers that helps cool the heads. A cool box sitting just under the head.
    Most alternatives dont work as well.
