Heat exchanger to body tubes

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by simon, May 15, 2020.

  1. Has anybody fitted silicone tubes from the heat exchanger to the body tube on a 1600 engine as I've heard the repro stuff can melt?

  2. I think there was a batch years ago that melted. Not heard of anything recently though

OG heat exchangers met JK concertina tubes and won. With repro heat exchangers there is little danger as the hot air gets less hot.

The trap is the two ends are slightly different diameters..

The trick at least with the JK ones is you can adjust their length by rotating one end..so you put it on short and then unwind it. Its also much easier on a hot day when the plastic is softer.

They probably tested them on after market heat exchanges which chuck out a lot less heat

  5. Ive managed to get original heat exchangers, just worried about melting the tubes

@1973daisey has replaced his concertinas with silicone tubes.

  7. Correct like £10 for a metre I'm just gonna make down custom steel ones so drive shafts can lower In to them when aired out

  8. Did you find the there was much noise when in use? I guess the ribbed bit and insulation in the repro stuff is there to reduce noise.

  9. The stuffing prevents chuffing!
