Have you neglected your bit on the side?

  1. Like most people on TLB I spend a lot of time on Freckle Bus, refurbing parts, cutting out the odd rusty bit here and there, cleaning, upgrading and generally improving things to make him more reliable and enjoyable... he is 35 years old, after all!

And then there's my bit on the side... the youngster... my 9 year-old daily, a Peugeot 307 SW estate which is perfect for the daily commute, carrying two adults, two kids and two dogs wherever we need to go. Being a 'modern' car, I haven't felt the need spent any time at all on it since I bought it (with a new MOT) just under a year ago. So with the MOT about to expire, I thought I'd check out the brakes. I could see through the alloy wheels that the rear discs were bad, with uneven wear on both sides, so I prioritised these and put new discs and pads on over the weekend. Then I had a quick look through the wheels at the front brakes, which didn't seem as bad, but I thought it best to replace them too so popped to GSF this afternoon and took the front wheels off when I got home... this is what I found:

I though the disc on the left was bad, with uneven wear and scoring, but the disc and pad on the right are the worst I've ever seen! Believe it or not, the pad on the right is 'friction surface up' (or what's left of it), so it's no wonder I heard a bit of grating this afternoon!

Anyway... I can now breath a huge sigh of relief for what was probably a narrow escape (as I did a 600 mile round trip in the car the weekend before), so my question to you is: "Do you or have you neglected your 'bit on the side' in favour of your pride and joy?" Answers on a postcard please!
