Hi all, This is Hattie. (Named by wife. I usually just refer to it as "the van" to annoy her.) We bought her last year on something of a whim, knowing very little about air-cooled vehicles and fully aware that we might end up getting stiffed but what's life without adventure? Went down to Somerset to sample the delights of Weston-super-Mare and stayed over to make sure we were first in the queue to have a look at her then took a punt, handed over a big wedge of twenties and drove her back up to Sheffield from Burnham-on-Sea in the freezing cold of January with no heater and a hefty breeze blowing through the gap in the passenger door. Since then she's grown on us and we've had several trips out in her including a week in the rain in Wales, while she has developed a few quirks along the way. Like frequently not starting. And the sliding door falling off. But these are just the sort of little idiosyncrasies that you have to expect from a 37-year old vehicle. On the plus side, every mechanic who's seen her has complemented us on the general solidity and lack of rust. Original colours were orange/white, but she's been through a selection of paint jobs until the previous owners decided that purple was the way to go. Purple works for us, so that's going to stay for a while and I'm currently doing a bit of a low-cost re-upholstery exercise (involving a roll-end of purple carpet and a spray-can of carpet glue) in the back to try and help keep the delightful British weather at bay. Wife's contribution seems to mostly involve making purple bunting. : We will be at CamperJam, but camping with friends in the "Organised" section. Still a 50-50 chance we'll be at Bus Stop Over, otherwise it'll be VW Festival at Harewood House &/or Run To the Hills the week after. And Techenders! Moosey
Hi Moosey, cute bus! Too long since I've been to sunny Sheffield. I've a good friend who lives over 'on the rough side' who's a Pastor in Burngreave. Can' wait to see your pics with la purple carpet in situ...
