Nick Blackwell and Chris Eubank Jr. fight resulted in Blackwell suffering a brain bleed. Hope he makes a full recovery.
I said the same earlier, tragic coincidence, I hope he recovers better than the other one 25 years ago
Boxing has had it's day. Any sport that routinely has anaesthetists in attendance and notifies the local head injuries bods to be ready has lost sight of reality.
I hear CE senior was advising jnr to stop hitting him in the head after round 8 yet the officials let the fight continue. Pretty sick IMO.
Head gear makes it far far worse...we are designed to shut down if hit hard enough, headgear prolongs our ability to not get knocked out, i.e. you get hit more.
One of the mods (or former as I've not seen on here for a long time) did a charity fight not long back and all the comments from so called friends on fb were well done, your brave etc. Looks weren't damaged ; )
It's quite staggering how many people have taken up boxing. Most of my guys I employ do and it seems to be there main topic of discussion
I think boxing is unique in that one way of winning is to punch your opponent senseless. I think Rugby has at least tried to move on from that.
Watching the cage fighting seems worse! When the opponent goes to the floor, the fighter literally sprints onto him to continue pummelling a clearly knocked out guy around the head. I've seen them bash the opponents unconscious head over and over, crazy, unsporting and dangerous!!! The referees are slow here too. Seen a few guys with eyes the same as this boxer after a night out!
I'm afraid to say I like boxing and have since I was a kid. I don't like it when one person is getting completely battered and the fight isn't stopped tho. Hope he recovers soon.
It is a brutal hard sport. But like Merlin Cat, I like boxing too, and UFC for that matter . I don't like to see fisticuffs in public mind. Unless it was someone fetching Noel Edmunds a fourpenny one . I would make allowances for that. Hope Nick Blackwell makes full recovery. I also think it was laudable of Eubanks Snr to tell his son to hit Blackwell with body shots, maybe he had Michael Watson at the back of his mind.
15-20% of boxers supposedly develop some form of dimentia/loss of motor/loss of sensory function. Lung cancer has a 90% causation related to smoking. We are pre programmed to take risks and believe it won't happen to us. For safety we'd be far better off never leaving the house....until you read that a greater proportion of accidents happen in the home, particularly the lounge!!
