Grrrrr Rear Bumper removal issues

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Lord Charles, Aug 31, 2012.

  1. Need to get the rear bumper off to fit my tow bar but the last bolt is just spinning in the hole like the captive nut has come loose.

It is the one closest to the back of the bus under the battery tray and I cannot find a way to get a spanner in there to hold it.

Anyone got any trick they's like to share.

I also sheared a bolt off on the other side but that is a separate issue.

Oh dear. :( Grinder/welder time. I think you need to chop out a square around the now non-captive nut, make a new plate with a nut attached and weld it in. I can confirm smacking it with a large sharp bolster and lump hammer will simply bend everything and it's impossible to get a grinder onto the bolt head. Tis a biatch.

Best idea MAY be to use force to pull the nut through the chassis and tidy up when the bumper mount is out of the way.

If you're really stuck, bring it round and I'll help in exchange for ££££'s ;) I know I'm officially shut, but I'm skint. :(

  3. That sucks Donkey balls.

I don't have a welder and even if I did I can't weld. Are you busy today Steve?

I could be available this afternoon. I should be doing some paperwork, but frankly any excuse not to... What time? I'll see if I can borrow an air saw.

  5. I'll call you.

  6. Cheers again Steve.
