I was talking to dad yesterday and he was telling me some stories about my grandad most of which I can’t repeat on here but he told me one about how grandad saw the titanic in Liverpool and from the beginning he was telling people that the titanic was going to sink but nobody listened , he was a brave man and kept on and on warning them until in the end they threw him out of the cinema
Here’s mine. This portrait of him was painted on the wood from an old wardrobe, by an Italian Artist, who was a POW, in the Italian POW camp, that my grandad was a Military Policeman at. The camp was here, in our town, on the site of the old Mendip Lodge hotel, and surrounding fields. Many Italians stayed in Frome and settled down here. Two of the more famous families were Difazio, invented of the front hubbsteering motorcycle, which won the TT in the early ‘70’s, and the Pannicias, the makers of the world famous vanilla ice cream, who’s ingredients remain a secret to this day, but is sadly no longer made. William Charles Uphill. Apparently, he was also a glider pilot in WWII, but we have no records of it.( he bought me my first pushbike). A great man.
