Just to say that the engine is out after much deliberation etc, thanks to all who answered my queries.
Yes I think so, wish I had sprayed all the screws with penatrating oil first, the engine dolly bought from VWH was rubbish.
Well done, that man . Van ownership's not complete without whipping the motor out. Next time, it'll take half an hour ...
