Got caught speeding on the M6 nearPlumpton , police were on motorway bridge , i was doing 80 ....not in the bus of coarse. TBH thought you were OK at that speed . I heard you still have to inform the insurance company even if you go on the Awareness coarse , don't know if that is true or not ? It's just so easy to start cranking the speed up without realizing it ...think i might be best getting a motor with cruse control , as my diesel mini cooper hasn't . That's Plumpton Cumbria.
Mini Why were you driving your lasses car, Infact blame her coz the cops won't believe it if you say it was you
I think originally you didn't have to inform insurance but now they've cottoned on to it and ask, pointless doing the course really
Cumbria , m6 the traffic training college was at penrith, probably still is. They dont take prisoners up there.
Spose it depends how many points you've already got, I've always managed to only have 3at a time and that never seemed to affect premiums
The speed limit is quite famous for being 70! http://www.confused.com/car-insurance/articles/smart-motorways-drivers-face-speeding-crackdown
When I did a course the other week it was a tenner less than the fine and involved no points. And here's the shocker, I found it quite interesting!
I've heard they are giving speeders in the north 3 months locked in a cell with Mr big, and he doesn't use KY
I was on a speed awareness course and the question was asked about informing the insurance companies. The only company who used to ask where admiral insurance, that might of changed now,If you do the course your details are on a secure database that the insurance companies cannot access so they will only know if you tell them. This was the answer that was given and the instructor said that whilst you should let them know if asked They Cannot check so the choice is yours. The insurance companies should not put up your premiums if you have been on a speed awareness course as that is what the course is for to make you more aware and thus less of a risk but they will. which as the instructor told us goes against the very reason theses courses where set up for in the first place as if it where a money making thing the fine is more than the course.
my better half went on the course after getting caught doing 47 as she went into a 40 zone. you don't have to inform your insurance company but when you come to renewal if they ask you should tell them. (to shove it)and look for another insurance company. admiral, churchill are the worst for asking by all accounts so stay clear of them.
I had to sign up for the course this weekend... Although I think I've made a boo boo already as the initial notice came through the morning I renewed the van insurance and I blabbed!! Doh!! I don't think it affected the premium at that time, but I'm insured with Admiral on the daily and I suspect they'll ask. For he record, 81 on the A27, which is slower than my highest recorded speed in the van on that road
Agree with everyone above, I did a speed awareness course 3 weeks ago - fine was £100 and 3 points, course was £90 and no points. Managed to get away with a half day off work as the course had a 1.15 start time. I've done one before and never had to declare it to my insurance, but maybe that has changed (I guess I'll know at the end of this month!). I'm pretty sure that even 3 points on your licence these days affects your insurance renewal price. Do the course if it's offered, surely?
