Going on holiday is nice but coming back home is...

  1. Stressful!

After two weeks away in Croyde we embarked on a 5.5 hour trip back (3 hours under normal conditions) only to find:
    1. Dishwasher valve failed, siphoned water back into the machine and had been leaking out all over the kitchen floor;
    2. No hot water as Boiler fan bearing had locked up; and
    3. I'd left a packet of Mozzarella in the fridge that went past it's use by date, ballooned up and exploded - absolutely stinks!
I always hear people at work having a similar experience so I guess it was just my turn. Anyone else had any post-holiday fun?

First world problems, each of them, for sure.

  2. I’m really sorry but I laughed at that. I thought it was just us that seems to be getting everything going wrong at the moment.

I came home to a burst pipe in the loft that had destroyed 2/3 of the house and was starting to fill the cellars. As we drove up we wondered why all the windows were steamed up.

  4. Went away once and inadvertently unplugged the freezer, two weeks later walked into an awful fish smelly place with the floor covered in completely defrosted freezer water.
Had to wrap defrosted fish into newspaper to throw away then clean and steam clean the kitchen floor to get rid of the stench before we could unpack.
Second time was a return from the Christmas Market and went upstairs to find bedroom ceiling laid on the bed and floor, a small leak had soaked the insulation until it became too heavy for soaked ceiling boards to carry and down it came.
At least insurance paid out on both occasions

  5. Yikes! I think @Tilly and @zedders wins this round!

I've just discovered the leak has made its way into the dining room as well so carpet up, underlay has been cut out, heating on.

Supposed to be valve setting, timing and mixture tweaking the bus right now:mad:

  6. Update: this is starting to look more serious than originally thought as there is mould everywhere:(

    Call to insurance I think...

  7. I've had my dish washer do the same.

Came back from holidays once to find a small damp patch. Fixed bad soldered elbow. Afew years later same again. The return pipe failed in the same corner of the airing cup board.
