glove box removal/ wipers/ dash top panel

  1. Ok so how the hell do I get the glove box out..... I've seen pictures of it coming out from beneath but this is not an option as there's a large 'thing' in the way..... something to do with the air con or heating? I've already ripped chunks off of the box liner that i'm trying to remove so am now going to have to replace this as well.

Trying to get to the wiper motor, wipers not working, motor sounds like it is and if you put hands round the wipers on the outside they're still attached to the bar as they're not loose and floppy, they'll move with help.

I cant find any bolts to remove the metal dash top either.
Quite frankly I feel like i'm falling at the first hurdle and could scream, every time I try something manual in hand, I end up breaking something else, and not fixing the problem anyway.

first off take a breather...its fairly simple to remove them all.

You need to remove the dashpod containing the clocks first, this is the easy part!

There are a series of screws just below the windscreen line - you will see them, loosen them off.

    Loosen the handbrake lever off

On each door piller there are two large is screws, loosen and remove those.

Get some assistance in supporting the dash, then remove the bolts holding the handbrake to the dash assembly

There may be other bolts holding bits on, remve these & you should be ok

  3. The band which holds the glovebox in place is held by a screw which is sort of hidden behind the bottom edge of the dash, it's a bit of a pain to get to because you have to contort yourself in the footwell to see it, but it's easy once you know where it is, once undone the glovebox drops out.

  5. When I removed my glovebox I had to remove a plastic air vent pipe. It rises out of the metal air vent that runs the width of the front panel. You need to undo the four or five screws holding the metal end plate first. You may find a fan inside the metal end plate.
I couldn't get the new plastic glovebox to fit, it was too deep and wouldn't rotate into place. It also snagged on the the fresh air flap mechanism. I had to cut about an inch off all round to get it to fit.

  8. When I've calmed down a bit i'll have another go at some of the ideas.
If it helps the wipers were fine until I had a new screen and seal fitted

  9. When you get to the wiper motor, the whole mechanism is held in place by a screw underneath the motor and the nuts on the outside of the spindles and does come out through the glove box hole. Got quite expert at it after the fourth time!

Unfortunately it sounds as though the main drive spindle, which is an interference fit in the middle of the nylon gearwheel driven by the worm-screw on the end of the motor shaft, has come loose. There is a thread on here about repairing it by means of bits of saw blades and slots. I tried gluing mine - no luck so had to get a replacement motor.

It can be a bit of a work up and does need patience and clear head but perfectly feasible. Good luck.
