gen.removal(wriggle room?)

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by steveagain, May 15, 2012.

  1. ok so tomorrow i am going to HAVE to pull the gen. to change those bleedin lower brushes ! so, does anyone know , once restraining strap is off , is there any "wriggle room " like to just tilt said gennie a little so i could get a suitable driver in on the screwhead ??or as all books seem to say pull the lot ?ta for your opinion(s) /thoughts on this .

  2. you can change them with it left in no need to take out

takeing it out is a good two hour job

  3. i reckon there is maybe something wrong with mine, the screwhead is sat at an angle pointing in towards the engine making getting a driver on it well impossible ! so i"m thinking "special tool"(severely bent screwdriver?!!!)or assaid pull the lot . any opinions from others re this angled screw situation appreciated >i.e. is this standard or, if a po has butchered same in, on previous brush replacement then this simple job gets "interesting "

  4. AND then i find this fella , at the top of an alleyway in a little unit working away on campers(truth , this happened today) and i laid the problem before him , and this wise sage informed me " loosen the four bolts holding the tinwear around the gennie, loosen off the gennie restraining strap , and detatch all wiring , then, simply turn the gennie thru 180% >>>>lower bushes are now upermost !!! now , ive spent most of this afternoon trying to find the flaw in this procedure , and so far cant, so , over to all your good selves , what you all think ,please???.and ta.

what he is saying is that the wear on the bearing (due to the fanbelt pulling them down) was at the bottom pointing downwards...by rotating them through 180', the wear will be at the top and the surface will have unworn bearing faces in the right place...if that makes sense!

  6. hey , morkc68, me hadn"t thought that one ! does make sense though, tomorrow i spin the gennie ! hell, caution to the winds i say ! ta.

  7. you will have to put it back where you have moved it from as there is a top and bottom to the back plate there is a hole that cools the gennie

  8. Cheers redarmy, you or anyone have an opinion on following, my gen. lamp is inop, the aftermarket voltmeter is showing its charging, multimeter accross batt. terminals and rev engine give batt. charging reading , ive done continuity test on supply -to-bulb cable/wire ,> is ok, changed bulb several times (just in case) cleaned all connections and renewed all connectors. When i put multimeter on conn.on regulator for bulb wire with engine switched live ,zilch reading! assume there should be some voltage ? SO , me got shot regulator you guys think ??? Thanks for any help on this one
