Paul at Bears is building up a replacement bellhousing for me next week. So I might yet make it in the bus..
I do hope you discussed with them that your guarantee is still valid after you have changed over the bell housing , was the box dropped or impact damage, I would get it in writing that you still have a full gaurentee
http://www.amgearboxes.com The garage I work at has been using Duncan for gearbox and axle repairs since the mid eighties and cannot fault his work or knowledge whatsoever .
Good point. I could have sent it back without the bell housing and paid less..but if they had dropped it in that state it would have been the case totalled.. Its only a few M8 bolts and, and as the rebuilt bit will include shaft seal, clutch cross shaft, lever and spring, all I am doing is bolting the replacement back on with some sealant... But I am going to shake it and wiggle it to check it over.
"I am going to shake it and wiggle it to check it over." Can we all follow this advice to the letter please everyone. Particularly over the Christmas season as we may have very little else on. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
I must say you're taking this very calmly Mike. Well done - couriers eh? Someone puts in all that effort and a courier smashes it in seconds!
Yep. It's cold comfort but I insist on an insured service with a tail lift. No forklifts! A syncro box can be north of 4k depending on what spec it is. I do struggle to understand how that bell housing got damaged like that. It must have been either dropped off a fork lift or its on a micro pallet. Use a gasket @mikedjames , not sealant. Get Bears to send you one...
you’ll find out one day no doubt , bears have been done n business a long while so I’m sure their service is excellent, personally I would fit the bell housing to bears requirements.
I never said it wasn't. It's an issue with the courier, not Bears, so I don't see your point! You should know me well enough by now to realise I don't do criticism to other people in the trade. It's unprofessional and serves no purpose! Both engines and gearboxes have fallen off pallets ever since transport was a thing! My point was simply that it's sensible to try and mitigate against that happening coz pallet couriers are a law unto themselves And regarding the gasket, if Bears don't fit one, then you're right. But Mike didn't say and perhaps I assumed it was his decision to use sealant. Was just trying to be helpful!
Nah, Hoff doesn't mean anything by this. Neither did I. Just hope Mike gets his bus back on the road soon
point was it doesn't matter how long you've been doing it, how good you are how, many precautions you take, what instructions you give the courier stuff like this is inevitable, its just a ball ache, the point about the sealant or gasket was concerning their warranty.
