Yea but luckily for me because ive done a full rebuild, most things have either been properly refurbished or replaced with new so hopefully I won’t be finding issues forever more

So, I cut away the offending piece of top-hat and now I have all gears- albeit a bit of a lucky dip but I’ll manage

CSP coupler and some patient adjustment work and you will get away from the OG cheese metal pin in the gearbox coupler.. this grooves and allows slop. You fiddle with it, it gets better as you turn it by accident to a less groovy angle, then 1000 miles later it's all sloppy again.
Not counting the pressed together cage and collar of the EMPI style aftermarket couplers that need welding up straight out of the bubble wrap.
And not having the pointed screw exactly central in the dimple so it suddenly goes sloppy while the wire holds the screw in.
Until I got a CSP the best solution was my OG coupler straightened out.. dunno which PO managed to twist it.. with the polyurethane cheeks and new pin from an EMPI.

The CSP is less forgiving as it has some spring but no slop. So the front shifter plate has to be perfectly setup.
