Funky High top Bay US Import, Full MOT.

  1. I have just completed the MOT work for a customer on a '73 LHD Bay window bus.

It came in from California after he was personally driving it in America on an adventure. He managed to break the original 1800cc engine & has fitted a 1600cc instead. It has the factory engine hatch still fitted.

I have just done a top end rebuild on the 1600 with honed barrels, decoked heads & lapped in valves.
Most of the tinware is powdercoated & the engine fitted with all service items. It still has the desirable 1800 gearbox for better crusing. It has the valves set & fresh oil.

It now has a full MOT with UK spec halogen lights & electric windscreen washers. It has had new rear brake shoes & a few other minor bits done. It will be uk registered soon too.

The van is very solid with only some slight peppering to the cab floor. This pretty minor & doesn't need to be done straight away.

I have raised the ride height up to a sensible level as it was a bit too low for my liking. It has an adjustable front beam & uprated shocks & drives really nice. The servo brakes are a joy to use.
The red sun visor is a pretty cool addition too.

The interior is a mix of good & not so good, the front seats are the original & in pretty good condition, but need a good clean.
The original Westfalia rock n roll bed has been re-trimmed along with the buddy seat. There is a CD player with usb etc in & 4 good speakers.

The 3 way fridge isn't plumbed in & is loose in the van & the front door cards are pretty rough.
The high top inside could do with panelling out, but it's all pretty easy stuff & better than nothing in there.

The van is located in Chiddingfold Surrey, but am happy to drive it home to Aldershot, Hants if anyone wants to see it.

  2. Last chance before Xmas.

I will take an offer on it.

  3. I will be back at the workshop today...

  4. The pop top could quite easily be removed as it is only bolted on with screws.

It could be replaced with a sunroof or pop top, to make your dream van.

The pop top is still worth a few quid after too...

The inside has been cut very neatly, just between the strengtheners.
