Hi folks, what's the best guidance for replacing the above? Am I better off making my own, thicker, gasket from gasket paper or using an off-the-shelf one which is a bit like a ciggie paper? Then gasket paste - yay or nay? Pretty sure mine has been allowing the black stuff out for a number of years. Cheers.
The classic paper ones are really thin. The plastic pump stand means you cant really squeeze it hard enough anyway. If you want to end up possibly damaging the plastic pump stand scraping off caked gunk and gasket the next time, and ending up lifting the pump and base together and maybe dropping the pump rod into the engine, use some sticky stuff.. Make your own, expect them still to seep a little black stuff. Change your oil more frequently then the runs of oil dont show ...
If you want to make your own, 0.4mm gasket paper should be fine. Smear of grease will help seal it (them).
