I noticed my fuel pipe was wet yesterday (the fabric outer) and when I moved it it started to leak....taken everything off and I am SHOCKED by how badly weathered the rubber is underneath the fabric and the pipes were new just under a year ago.....I was advised to change pipes every couple of years so I always keep a bit of an eye on them. I am relieved I spotted the damp when I checked...just have a quick look at your bus before it goes up in flames!
well done for checking, now fit something better than that cotton overbraided poor excuse for fuel line http://www.coolairvw.co.uk/Item/Sho..._Rubber_Fuel_Hose_-OB-Sold_Per_Metre-CB-.html
Even halfords are selling R9 fuel hose, tho you have to buy the one for fuel injection, still it was only about six quid a metre
It’s good to see that COOL AIR actually state the grade of hose they sell and not just claim that it is suitable for all fuels as many other suppliers do. SAEJ30R9 is satisfactory for E10 fuel but still avoid it if you can, the fuel that is not the hose.
Be careful buying from halfords. Lots of older stock on the shelves R6 stocked at my local being sold for modern FI motors. Won't last as long as R9
Sorry to butt in on your thread but does anybody know where I can buy a one way valve for the 5.6mm pipe? Bought the pipe off cool air but they don't sell one way valves. Cheers Andy
the only way to avoid the high ethanol is to use the posh petrol, total waste on these engines though, if you could still buy 2 star (showing my age) they'd run on that.
I was only thinking about that the other day - I'm sure my dad used to put that in his '71 bay til they stopped selling it
Ethanol enhanced fuel (is that what boggo unleaded is these days?) might not wreck your van but it will reduce the power, and most of us don’t have much power in the first place. Ethanol eats rubber and degrades some metals such as brass that we have in our carburettors and there are many modern cars that are not suitable for Ethanol, so as I said avoid it if you can. Although there will be no power advantage premium unleaded such as Shell V-Power is Ethanol free. Over here the pumps are clearly marked E10, super, or regular unleaded so it is easy to avoid Ethanol (E10).
