Fuel Gauge Nightmare.

This is a really helpful thread so far, pics are useful and i am looking forward to getting a voltmeter and doing all the neccessary tests . Cant wait to have a working fuel gauge. It will put my mind at ease

Hopfully this will clear it up

The black is live and is looped of the black live that feeds the alternator & oil lights (feed from the fuse box) this goes on one side of vibrator ( this insures a constant 10v to the gauge)

The red goes between the vibrator and the gauge
so there no live to the sender in the tank then zed?
im now confussed how this works ???

The brown (switched earth) goes on the gauge and runs to the sender (a variable resister) in the tank to earth.

You will also find a a black wire that runs from sender to earth to ensure the sender has a good path to earth

I have took the sender out for a butch, and it is clean as new, cant see whats wrong. The gauge is wired up as it should be but not even a flicker. I took eace wire off its terminal at the sender and earthed it for good luck but nothing wobbled either. What should one do. I might get a 12v to 6v reducer and try to wire up the split gauge again. Maybe it being there is a sign that the original is dud.

same probs here fitted a new sender and the gauges are all wired up ! but i have no power to the red wire on the gauge stabiler thing
theres a 12v live thats black but no live on the red proper head fook oh sorry for the hi jack

put the black straight to the fuel gauge where the red wire is, if the gauge works the must be the stabiliser

Hi guys,

having the same difficulty and have just done the above. Have no access to tank sender end. The needle is just pointing to empty and not moving at all. Have bypassed the stabiliser and still nothing. Any thoughts?
