Fuel filter

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by mfranklin, Sep 21, 2012.

  1. Has anyone fitted a fuel filter other than one of the many little plastic see through ones that seem so flimsy.

Presumably someone must sell a good quality strong filter that could be bolted in the engine bay ?

  3. I Can only speak of my experience of using one of these, check that it is air tight (a good seal around the joint) before you fit it. Mine seemed ok and tight when i fitted it and started the engine fuel gushed out all over the place. I had to tighten it in a vice before it had a solid seal.

Sent it back as faulty but got no refund. Not saying who i sent it back to causes to much hassle.

  4. The plastic ones are fine - it's what VW used. Fit it under the tank.

Another vote for plastic ones being fine.

  6. ^^ whs ^^ why introduce another possibly shonky joint into the fuel system. Unscrewing a blind filter to check for possible contamination wastes fuel and time.

If its up over the top of the gearbox I guess its extremely unlikely a stone will hit it.
